Want to see Matthews's newest secret? The Back Corner's 30-foot bar, hidden (coincidently enough) in the back corner of the recently opened Ames Street Marketplace, serves original craft cocktails, including non-alcoholic and THC-infused options. Grab a table and get some work done in the afternoons or hang out with us for early evening events, including live music and weekly karaoke. We feature $5 house liquors on Sunday while you cheer on your team and $10 THC cocktails on Thursdays or try one of our seasonally curated cocktails — you'll be glad you found us!

🧺 Union County Hidden Gem:
Bountiful Blessings Farm Fresh Produce

Step off the beaten path (well… just a short scenic drive) and you’ll find a place that lives up to its name: Bountiful Blessings Farm Fresh Produce in nearby Monroe. It’s not just another produce stand—this is a family-oriented, locally rooted spot offering clean, honest food and that rare farmhouse welcome you’ll remember.
Why You’ll Want to Go
Locally grown, really local. The Facebook page notes that meats, eggs, and produce come from farms within a five-mile radius—no long supply chains, no mystery origins.
More than just veggies. Alongside crisp seasonal produce you’ll find local honey, jams, fresh eggs, pasture-raised meats, plants for your garden and more.
Open, welcoming, everyday. This place isn’t a once-in-a-while pop-up. It’s open every day and aims to serve the community with a full local-food mindset.
Perfect for the “shop local” spirit. For Matthews folks looking to support nearby farms and small business, this hits the sweet spot: a short drive, meaningful impact, and genuine quality.
What to Look For Right Now
Here are a few suggestions to make the visit extra satisfying:
Ask about what’s in season—beans and peas, as noted on their Facebook page, were recently available.
Wander the plant section—you may find herbs, vegetable seedlings, and garden extras for your own backyard.
Grab a jar of local honey or jam—great as a treat or a gift that says “I care about the community.”
If you like fresh, ethically-raised meats or eggs, this is a strong option (and a nice complement to the usual grocery run).
How to Visit
Location: 4702 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110
Phone: (704) 681-0820.
Hours: Monday–Saturday 10 AM–6 PM, Sunday 11 AM–6 PM (always wise to call ahead).
Fuel up & browsing time: Set aside 30-45 minutes so you can explore, ask questions and enjoy the feel of the place—not just a quick in-and-out.
Why It Matters for Matthews Readers
Because when you shop local like this:
You strengthen the food economy right here around us.
You build trust in what you’re eating—those farms are “nearby”, you can ask about what went into the food.
You get something distinctive (and tasty!) better than what you’d find in the chain grocery aisle.
You get to be part of the story of your community—your weekend visit to Bountiful Blessings can become part of your local-living narrative.

🎃 Taste of the Week

Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream (w/ wet nuts topping)
Tuck away a bit of your Thanksgiving pumpkin pie to make this old-fashioned deliciousness.
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
Couple pieces of pumpkin pie
2/3 cup dark brown sugar
1/3 cup cane sugar
1/2 cup white corn syrup
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
2 cups walnuts, roughly chopped
For the ice cream, soften it for about 10 minutes. Put into a bowl and gently fold in pieces of pie. Return to freezer to harden.
For the wet nuts topping, bring sugars syrups, and butter to a slow boil over medium heat until sugar dissolves, then reduce heat and lightly boil for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in extract, salt, and walnuts. Let cool to room temperature, then jar and store in refrigerator for up to 3 months.
Too thick once cooled? Stir in 1-2 tablespoons of warm tap water until desired consistency.
Yield: 8-10 servings plus 1 1/2 pints wet nuts topping.
